There’s a whole lotta spookiness in our future.

You wanna know what caught me off guard the most in yesterday’s Resident Evil Showcase stream? The revelation that Lady Dimitrescu’s name is pronounced “deh-meh-treese,” rather than “demeh-treh-skew.” I’ve been saying it wrong this entire time, and I imagine many of you have been as well. Aside from that little bombshell, though, there was lots of new info about Resident Evil Village, which is just around the corner, as well as other Resident Evil-adjacent projects.

In some new details about Village, Capcom revealed that a fan-favorite bonus mode from previous Resident Evil games, The Mercenaries, would be making a comeback. In The Mercenaries, players can battle through waves of spooky foes arcade-style with the goal of racking up the highest score. Additionally, over the three weeks leading up to the release of Village, there’ll be time-limited demos available. PS4 and PS5 users will get first crack at the Village and Castle demos on April 17 and 24, respectively, while other platforms will have a single combined demo on May 1. These demos will only be available for a day, and will only permit an hour of playtime, just to give you a little taste before release.

Additionally, the showcase showed off a new trailer for Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, an animated series coming to Netflix in July, wherein Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield must protect the US President in the midst of another zombie outbreak. The live-action adaptation of the original Resident Evil, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, has also officially wrapped filming in Toronto, and is now entering post-production. It was also announced that Capcom will be collaborating with Behaviour Interactive to bring Resident Evil characters to the horror multiplayer game Dead By Daylight some time in June 2021. Finally, in collaboration with Oculus and Facebook, Capcom is creating a reimagined version of Resident Evil 4 entirely in VR.

In case you forgot, Resident Evil Village will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC via Steam, and Google Stadia on May 7. Anyone who buys it will also receive free access to the multiplayer shooter Resident Evil Re:Verse.
