Castlevania video games may not really be a thing anymore (pachinko machines don’t count, Konami), but the spirit of the series is still alive and well. Simon and Richter Belmont made it into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Koji Igarashi made Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night a smash hit, and of course, we have the Netflix series, which just released its third season.
The fun thing about the Netflix series is that it gives some extra characterization to characters that don’t always have an audible voice. The game it draws primary inspiration from, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, was originally on the NES, so it was understandably a bit light in the dialogue department. It’s nice to get a little more insight into the tragedy of Dracula and the Belmonts, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that the show’s got some great action scenes.
