Former supermodel Christie Brinkley took to Instagram on Wednesday to share with her followers that she had recently undergone surgery to remove basal cell carcinoma from her face. Brinkley, known for her iconic appearances on Sports Illustrated covers in the 1980s, emphasized the importance of early detection and sun protection in her message to fans.

In a series of candid photos shared on her Instagram page, Brinkley documented her recovery process, including images of the bandaged wound and stitches resulting from the procedure. She expressed gratitude for the early detection of the cancer and praised her medical team for their expertise in removing it.

“The good news for me is we caught the basal cell carcinoma early,” Brinkley wrote in her caption. “And I had great doctors that removed the cancer and stitched me up to perfection like a haute couture Dior.”

Using her experience as a platform for advocacy, Brinkley urged her followers to prioritize regular skin checks and sun protection measures to prevent similar health issues. She recounted how her cancer was discovered during her daughter’s routine doctor’s visit, underscoring the importance of proactive healthcare.

“I was lucky to find mine because I was accompanying one of my daughters to HER checkup,” Brinkley explained. “So make your own good luck by making that checkup appointment today. And slather up, my friends!”

Brinkley’s daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, responded to her mother’s post with words of love and support, highlighting the importance of skincare in the healing process.

Brinkley’s candid revelation comes as a reminder of the significance of sun protection and regular health screenings, particularly in light of her influential status in the fashion and entertainment industry.
