The iconic hands sold for $81,250.

1990’s Edward Scissorhands, the classic Tim Burton film starring Johnny Depp as the titular artificial human with razor-sharp hands, has no shortage of iconic imagery and props. Unsurprisingly, the most iconic of these props are Edwards hands themselves, which were recently obtained by film memorabilia auction house Propstore. These classic slicing implements were scheduled to go up for sale this week, with analysts ballparking their price at approximately $40,000.

However, when the hands went up for sale yesterday, their final price blew the original estimate clean out of the water, selling for double their initial value at $81,250. Experts believe that this sudden lurch in price is due to Johnny Depp’s current high profile in the entertainment industry. Specifically, the high profile brought about by the recent conclusion of his fiery legal battle with his ex-wife, Amber Heard.

Besides the Edward Scissorhands prop, another piece of Depp memorabilia is scheduled to go up for sale at Propstore this week: the motorcycle Depp rode in 1990’s Cry Baby. The 1955 Harley Davidson Model K chopper is going up for sale with an initial asking price of $250,000, and if the Scissorhands prop is anything to go by, it could end up exceeding that initial asking price and then some.
