Tim Cook Hints at New Apple Headset

Cook all but confirmed the new headset’s development.

To date, despite several efforts, the tech giants of the world haven’t quite figured out how to make the concept of augmented reality, or AR, commercially viable. Offerings like the Google Glass couldn’t quite reach the level of popularity necessary for profitability. However, the gears are always turning in the background, and unless we miss our mark, Apple may have something new right around the corner.

Recently, Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke to China Daily USA about the state of AR tech and what it needs to be successful.

“I am incredibly excited about AR as you might know. And the critical thing to any technology, including AR, is putting humanity at the center of it,” he said.

He went on to mention Apple’s efforts in the sphere, focusing primarily on their AR camera apps. In the process, he dropped a pretty significant hint. “But I think we’re still in the very early innings of how this technology will evolve. I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunities we’ve seen in this space, and sort of stay tuned and you’ll see what we have to offer.”

While not an outright confirmation, it’s a pretty clear signal that Apple is working on new AR-focused tech, and based on rumors reported by Bloomberg back in May, it’s a good chance that the tech in question is a new kind of AR headset. According to that report, Apple could release concrete info on this headset either by the end of the year or near the beginning of 2023.
