“I’m gonna make you an offer you can’t refuse” isn’t on the list, if you were wondering.

You know what’s weird? There are a lot of famous movie quotes that I knew even before I saw the movies they’re from. I knew “a new life awaits you in the offworld colonies” before I saw Blade Runner, I knew “here’s looking at you kid” before I saw Casablanca, heck, I knew Rosebud was Charles Foster Kane’s sled before I knew who Orson Welles was.

The interesting thing about growing up in a world with a pre-established pop culture is that you pick up lots of little tidbits like that through cultural osmosis without actually getting their meaning. When I was a kid, my parents could hold entire conversations in nothing but movie and TV quotes. I’m pretty sure I know more random movie quotes than I’ve seen actual movies.
