Not Every Influencer Should Influence People
Ruby Franke, a once-popular parenting influencer, has been sentenced to at least four years in prison following a disturbing case of child abuse. Known for her controversial parenting advice, Franke’s life took a dark turn after a 12-year-old boy escaped from her home, revealing a shocking case of abuse.
The incident unfolded on a late August morning in Utah when the boy, covered in open wounds and still bound with duct tape on his ankles, sought help from a neighbor. According to police reports, he had climbed out a window to escape his home, where he was found malnourished and suffering from deep lacerations caused by being restrained with rope.
In total, four children were removed from Franke’s care, and Franke, along with her former business partner Jodi Hildebrandt, was arrested. The two women, who had been working together in a parenting consultancy, faced charges of severe child abuse. On Tuesday, both Franke and Hildebrandt were sentenced to four terms of one to 15 years each in prison.
In court, a visibly emotional Franke addressed the court, stating, “I was so disoriented that I believed dark was light and right was wrong.” She had previously admitted to charges of starving and abusing her children.
Franke, 42, had gained fame through her YouTube channel, where she shared parenting tips with a following of over two million subscribers. Her advice often sparked debate, but few could have anticipated the grim reality behind her personal life.
The case has shocked many and raises questions about how a public figure with such a large platform could fall into such a troubling situation. As Franke begins her prison sentence, her story serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of vigilance and support for children in potentially harmful environments.
