Riverdale star Cole Sprouse was one of thousands across the U.S. to be arrested over the weekend while protesting the murder of George Floyd. In an Instagram post, Sprouse detailed his experience of being detained while protesting racism and police brutality in Santa Monica.

“A group of peaceful protesters, myself included, were arrested yesterday in Santa Monica,” Sprouse began the post.

Before the “horde of media sensationalism” began to report about Sprouse, the actor made it clear that he wanted to speak about the following circumstances: “Black Lives Matter. Peace, riots, looting, are an absolutely legitimate form of protest. The media is by nature only going to show the most sensational, which only proves a long-standing racist agenda.”

Sprouse took part in a protest that was held on Broadway in downtown Santa Monica. The group was holding signs and simply marching, but destruction and looting began in a nearby area, causing at least two squad cars to become burned and damaged.

Sprouse went on to say in his post that he and others “were given the option to leave” and told they would be arrested if they didn’t. The actor turned to leave but said that he and others were met with a line of police officers blocking their path. “They started zip tying us,” Sprouse wrote.

The actor went on to say that this is the time to “stand ground near others,” provide support and do “the right thing.”
