Our Favorite Father-Son Duo on Screen

Emmy Award–winning father-son duo Eugene Levy and Dan Levy will host the 76th Emmy Awards, the Television Academy announced Friday. The ceremony will air live from the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 15, from 8-11 p.m. EDT/5-8 p.m. PDT on ABC, and will be available for streaming the following day on Hulu.

In a joint statement, the Levys expressed their excitement about the hosting gig: “For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough. We’re thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can’t wait to spend the evening with you all.”

Eugene and Dan Levy are celebrated for their work on the acclaimed series Schitt’s Creek, which swept the comedy categories at the 72nd Emmy Awards in 2020. Their wins included Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.

This year’s Emmy Awards will feature major nominations for FX’s The Bear, which has set a new record for comedy series nominations with 23, and FX’s Shōgun, leading the drama categories with 25 nominations.

The production team for the 76th Emmys will include many familiar faces, with Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon, and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay returning as executive producers. Alex Rudzinski will direct, and Rickey Minor will serve as music director for the sixth time. The team also includes returning producer Brittany Brazil, production designer Brian Stonestreet, head writer Jon Macks, lighting designer Noah Mitz, and screens producer Drew Findley. Eric Cook joins as a co-executive producer.

“Eugene and Dan Levy created two of the most iconic TV characters in recent history and are a perfect fit to host television’s biggest night,” said Collins, Harmon, and Rouzan-Clay. “We look forward to the audience having an unforgettable experience with this dynamic duo.”

Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego added, “We are thrilled to welcome two generations of comedy genius to the Emmy’s stage as hosts. Eugene and Dan Levy are known for creating unforgettable laugh-out-loud moments on screen, and together, they are super-charged. I cannot wait for Emmy fans to see what they have in store for all of us.”

Eugene Levy is also a double-nominee this year for his work on The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy, competing in the categories of Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special and Outstanding Writing for a Nonfiction Program.
