Out of the numerous pieces of pop culture I was raised to appreciate, Star Trek was at the height of them all. My dad grew up watching both the original series and The Next Generation, and had an entire mental encyclopedia of quotes from both for just about any given situation. On my own, I explored Voyager and Deep Space Nine, and we watched the reboot movies in the theater. So while I’m not exactly a traditional Trekkie, the franchise definitely has a lot of sentimental value to me, with a lot of that value focused on the Captains.

The Captains of Star Trek’s various vessels were often the first and last lines of defense against whatever peril’s threatened the crew.
