The War of Chicken is Over

*singing* no more chicken from Popeye’s

The social media sensation for the Popeye’s chicken sandwich has officially come to an end, as the chain sold out of all the delicious buttermilk fried patties nationwide—a whole month earlier than anticipated.

The Louisiana chain announced on Tuesday that following the incredible success of the menu addition—one that spurred Twitter fights, drive-thru altercations, unnecessarily high re-sell pricing, and Instagram clout—would have to leave menus nationwide, for now. In an interview with CBSnews, a Popeye’s spokesperson said: “we, along with our suppliers, are working tirelessly to bring the new sandwich back to guests as soon as possible.”

Whether the success came from the actual quality of the new item, or from the feud between other chicken fans, people could not keep their hands off the Brioche buns. The war of the chicken sandwich waged between Popeye’s, Chick-fil-a, and Wendy’s who each have their own take on what makes this southern classic truly delicious.

If you didn’t have the chance to hop on the bandwagon in time to get your hands on one, have no fear. The chain plans to reintroduce the item when stores are better able to handle the influx of customers with an inventory to satisfy their cravings. Customers can download their app to be the first to know when the item will be back on menus nationwide.
