Tom Holland brings home another smash hit.

Tom Holland is currently one of the most profitable actors in all of Hollywood. His excellent performance in Spider-Man: No Way Home was a major contributor to that film’s record-breaking success, and now it seems any film project he touches turns to gold. Case in point, Uncharted is a new film that was released over the weekend based on the video game franchise of the same name with Holland in the starring role as the adventurous Nathan Drake.

Unsurprisingly, it seems that, whether due to Holland’s presence or some other factor, Uncharted is a smash hit at the box office. In its opening weekend, the film turned a domestic profit of approximately $44.1 million, a good $14 million higher than Sony’s initial projections for the film’s debut. With the addition of President’s Day to the weekend, the film could even see an additional profit of around $6 million.

Interestingly, while Uncharted has been a smash hit with filmgoers, critical opinion has been predominantly negative. At time of writing, the film maintains a critical score of 39% on film review aggregate Rotten Tomatoes versus a 90% audience score. The critical consensus has Uncharted pegged as a generic action-adventure flick that cribs its best elements from other movies, but buzz on social media, whether from fans of the game series or newcomers, doesn’t really seem to care.

Either way, it looks like Uncharted is shaping up to be another blockbuster for Sony, and another notch in Holland’s belt for profitable performances.
