Sometimes K-pop fandoms can get a little carried away…

Charlie Puth has called for an end to the toxic stan wars of 2020. Taking to Twitter, the American pop star addressed the increasing amount of negativity he received from the BTS fan Army who claim Puth used the K-pop boy band for “clout.” In 2018, Puth performed with one of BTS’s members, Jungkook, at the MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards.

“I don’t usually pay any mind to things like this, but something has to be said. This dangerous, toxic, internet screaming match between ‘fandoms’ has to stop,” Puth wrote in his series of tweets.

Puth went on to say that although the nasty messages don’t “really mean anything” to him now, he reflected back 10 years ago and said that if this type of negativity from fans were to occur then, “language like this” would have affected him “deeply in a very negative way.”

Puth further addressed all the young social media users who may see the comments and said that all the negativity coming from fandom wars could impact a person’s mental health. He called for people to be nicer to each other and said that “we all need to love each other more than ever right now.”

Puth added that he loves BTS and stated that they are super talented. Since his comments, the Twitter ARMY thanked the pop singer for continuing to show RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook love and apologized for the behavior of other fans.
