The recent Taylor Swift sales controversy has sparked an investigation.

Last week, ticket sales began for Taylor Swift’s upcoming Eras tour, and the fan response was expectedly gigantic. However, as concertgoers attempted to purchase tickets on ticketing website Ticketmaster, many were sandbagged by website errors and crashes, finding their orders cancelled or invalidated for seemingly no reason. This went on for several days until Ticketmaster suddenly announced that they would be suspending sales for the tour due to being unable to keep up with the demand.

This incident has sparked suspicions around the company of power abuse and antitrust violations, using its monopolistic hold over ticket sales to influence the event. Numerous state Attorney Generals have announced the opening of investigations, inviting those affected by the incident to submit reports and statements.

“Trouble, trouble, trouble,” Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro tweeted last week. “Having trouble using Ticketmaster? Pennsylvanians experiencing problems using the site should submit a complaint to my office.”

“There are no allegations at this time of any misconduct, but as the attorney general it’s my job to ensure that the consumer protection laws and antitrust laws in Tennessee are being honored,” Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti told the Associated Press.

In a separate statement to the Tennessee Star, Skrmetti noted that this investigation is basically starting from zero, and as such, it will likely be a while before they can find anything concrete. “They’re going to start doing the basic grunt work with discovery, getting documents, looking into exactly what happened, and exactly what representations were made,” Skrmetti said. “We’ll do an analysis of the market for concert tickets and see if there might be an antitrust issue there…It’s going to be a long time. It could take awhile.”
