We all know Pokémon from the time Ash met Pikachu and the two became the best of friends. However, fans will soon know the history behind Ash’s Pikachu, thanks to the Pokémon anime.

The first episode of the new season of Pokémon will be called “Pikachu is Born!” and will show what Ash’s Pikachu was like before his life at Professor Oak’s office. This means that fans will actually get a look at baby Pikachu at some point, so prepare for all the memes and adorable gifs that are to come.

For those who watched the Pokémon anime from the very beginning, they will remember that Ash’s relationship with Pikachu started off rocky, with Pikachu refusing to get in its ball, electrocuting Ash, and laughing at him when he could not catch a Pidgey. But Pikachu’s heart softened when he realized how much Ash cared about him.

The new season will debut on Nov. 17 in Japan, but it is currently unknown when the show will be dubbed and brought over to other countries. A trailer for the new Pokémon anime series based on the first episode has already been released and reveals that Pikachu’s story begins in the Kanto region.

A synopsis for the first episode, translated by Crunchyroll, reads:

“In a forest somewhere in Kanto, there once was a lonely Pichu. This Pichu – who was still quite young – had a certain encounter and farewell. This took place shortly before Ash and his partner Pikachu started travelling together. This is the beginning of the anime ‘Pocket Monster.’”
