Steam Summer Sale 2019 Highlights

Nothing says summer like a video game sale

It’s that magical time of year once again; the time where money flies right out of your wallet and your Steam library surges with wonderful new games that you probably won’t play any time soon. Yes, that’s right, the Steam Summer Sale is upon us once again from June 25 to July 9.

As with every year, the sale is accompanied by a theme and ongoing AR game. This year, users can join one of five teams as they race around the world. By buying and playing games, completing quests, and turning in tokens, you can earn neat little rewards like emoticons and wallpapers. Random members of the first, second, and third-place teams will be awarded games from their wishlist every day.

But I’m guessing you’re here for regular gaming, not metagaming. In that case, here’s a few choice selects from the sale catalog, featuring a variety of budgets and genres to suit your palette.

In preparation for the upcoming Doom Eternal, the 2016 Doom is on sale for 25% off at $14.99. More fun than you can shake a severed limb at.

Cute-as-heck collect-a-thon platformer A Hat in Time is 50% off at $14.99. You can also get the Ultimate Edition, which features both of the game’s DLC packs as well as two soundtracks, for $21.86.

High-flying character-action game Devil May Cry 5 is 34% off at $39.59. It’s got rocket punches and dual chainsaws that turn into a motorcycle. That’s pretty objectively awesome.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection features both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, plus all of their accompanying DLC, at a mighty 97% off for a measly $5.90. It’s a good time for it; Borderlands 2 just got a free DLC update featuring a lead-in to Borderlands 3.

Murder mystery visual novel Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is 60% off at $7.99. I know it looks like a weird anime thing and, well, it is, but it’s a really good story, I swear.

Tales of Berseria, the most recent entry in the Tales JRPG series, is 75% off at $12.49. Great gameplay, fun characters, and a whoooole lot of side content.

Dragon Ball FIghterZ, the Dragon Ball fighting game of your dreams, is 75% off at $14.99. Only the madmen at Arc System Works could make a coherent fighting system out of that crazy series.

The modern remake of Resident Evil 2 is 34% off at $39.59. All the terrors you know and love with a fresh coat of paint and reworked mechanics. Also, Mr. X wears a hat. It’s cute.

Dungeon-crawler rogue-lite Enter the Gungeon is 50% off at $7.49. Hundreds of bizarre guns to discover in an endlessly shifting maze of bullets.

Metroidvania adventure Hollow Knight is 40% off at $8.99. It’s kinda like Dark Souls, but smaller. No less bleak and difficult, though. You’ll definitely want to play this before Hollow Knight: Silksong comes out.

This is just a small sampling of the sales available in the catalog. Take a look for yourself and shop to your little heart’s content. I’d tack a “within reason” on there, but we all know that reason goes out the window during the Summer Sale.
